BREAKING NEWS... BREAKING NEWS...

Statement by Kenneth R. Feinberg, March 3, 2012
He's patting himself on the back!
“The announced Settlement in the Gulf is good news. It avoids a lengthy complex trial and uncertain appeals. I point with significant pride and satisfaction to the achievements of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility: reviewing over one million claims submitted by 573,000 claimants and paying some $6.1 billion to approximately 225,000 individuals and businesses in just over 18 months. I believe the GCCF has successfully fulfilled its mandate, and urge an orderly transition to the new proposed claims program.”

IMPORTANT NOTICE, March 2, 2012
On March 2, 2012, a proposed settlement of numerous lawsuits arising out of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was announced. The proposed settlement is between BP and individuals and businesses with claims arising from the spill. The settlement is not yet final, and it has not yet been approved by the Court.

It is the GCCF’s understanding that if the settlement is completed and approved by the Court, there will be a new settlement claims center to replace the GCCF. In addition there will be a new GCCF transition process which will operate while the new settlement claims center is being established. Also, a new Claims Administrator will be appointed to administer the transition process under newly adopted rules governing payments. Kenneth Feinberg and his team at Feinberg Rozen, LLP will no longer be administering the processing of claims for the GCCF.

When additional information is available, it will be posted on the GCCF website at www.gulfcoastclaimsfacility.com. We also understand information will be provided to you as directed by the Court. We are always happy to answer questions at 1-800-916-4893.

A letter will be sent shortly by the new Claims Administrator advising you about your claim. Any information you previously submitted to the GCCF will be retained. If the Court approves the new settlement center, your claim information and documentation could be automatically transferred to the new center.
